The Importance of Snow and Ice Removal
Although the winter season can bring a lot of joy and wonder, it can also cause a nuisance and invite danger. Snowfall, rainstorms, and even hail can significantly make life harder in a residential or commercial property. As such, it is paramount to invest in good ice and snow removal services.
Prevent Accidents.
It does not take a scientist to understand that ice can be slippery. Even with the proper shoes on, ice can cause people to slip and fall, potentially resulting in injury. In a commercial setting, ice and snow can lead to accidents for both employees and customers. That is not only bad for business, but it can also put you in legal liability.
Maintain Aesthetic.
Apart from providing a safe space for everyone, residential and commercial property snow removal can maintain the appearance of your property. For residential properties, this can enhance curb appeal. For commercial properties, this can invite more customers and keep employee morale high.
Frequently Asked Questions
There are many ways to get rid of snow. Professional companies can use a variety of methods for commercial and residential snow removal, including shovels, snowplows, and deicing products.
Snow can be removed using a snow shovel, a snow scoop, or a snowplow. A de-icing agent can also melt snow and ice in a more efficient way.
Snow removal is important to the safety and welfare of vehicles and persons. Snow and ice can cause people to slip and fall. It can also cause cars to skid out of control, endangering the lives of those inside and outside it.
It depends on the vacuum. It is possible to vacuum snow using a wet/dry vacuum. Other than that, though, it is not recommended.
To melt snow with vinegar, combine vinegar and water (3:2 ratio). Pour the solution over the iced surface and wait for the ice to melt. It may take time, up to overnight, depending on the thickness of the ice.
A good way to prevent snow from accumulating on your driveway is to use a snow melt chemical. Salt works in most cases. If there is only a minimal amount, you can use a shovel to remove snow manually.
It is okay to shovel snow while it is still snowing if it is not windy outside and snowfall is not severe. It is best to refrain from shoveling in the presence of heavy snowfall or intense winds as it can be dangerous.
You can clear the road from snow with the help of shovels, a snow scoop, or a snowplow. Salt or other de-icing agents can also work. It is much easier to remove snow when it is loose and fresh, so it is best to do it right after a snowfall.
A snow blower can be used to remove snow from grassy surfaces. There are also de-icers that are friendly to plant and animal life.
Winter Maintenance Services Every Property Needs
There are three services every residential or commercial property owner must invest in as part of winter property maintenance.
Ice Pre-Treatment
This process prevents roads and pavements from icing. An anti-icing product is applied to the surface up to 48 hours before a winter storm hits. In doing so, snow just melts away and keeps the surface from becoming slippery due to ice.
MSI provides ice pre-treatment services for properties of all types. We use industry-grade products to make sure pavement, driveways, walkways, and roads stay ice-free and safe.
Snow Removal
Shoveling snow can take endless hours, especially when the snow is too deep or too much. Rather than wasting time by removing snow yourself, it is wiser to hire a professional company like MSI. We use state-of-the-art equipment to plow snow away, leaving you with a clean space.
Here at MSI, we understand that snow can be troublesome in any setting. That is why we offer our services to properties of all kinds and in all locations. We provide residential, retail, commercial property, and HOA snow removal.
Ice Removal
When it rains or snow melts, ice can form on pavements, walkways, and driveways, making the area prone to accidents. Instead of scraping them away, have MSI perform our expert ice removal services. We use only the best deicing products to remove ice in a safe and efficient manner.
Different Types of Pre-Treatment
When it comes to ice pre-treatment, there are a handful of types to choose from. Each one functions a little differently from the others.
Calcium Chloride
As a hygroscopic compound, calcium chloride absorbs moisture from the surface and then starts to dissolve soon after. When it dissolves, it can produce heat of up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a great compound for melting snow and ice. It is most suitable for concrete surfaces. Calcium chloride is friendlier to the environment than most other treatments and is also less corrosive. The catch is that it tends to cost more.
Magnesium Chloride
For concrete areas with a lot of vegetation nearby, magnesium chloride is recommended. It is similar to calcium chloride in that it is a hygroscopic compound and non-corrosive. It is worth noting, though, that this treatment is even more expensive than others, including calcium chloride. Still, it works great for effectively and quickly melting snow and ice.
Calcium Magnesium Acetate
Calcium magnesium acetate (CMA) is environmentally-friendly in that it does not pose a threat to animal or plant life. It is most suitable for use on concrete surfaces aged two years old or below. It is also commonly used as an overlay with other treatments.
Additionally, CMA can work on ice and snow in low temperatures. Many use it to stop the re-freezing process. Rather than forming a brine, this treatment prevents snow and ice particles from clinging to each other.
Potassium Chloride
If a concrete surface also consists of materials made of rebar or wire mesh, potassium chloride is the most compatible treatment. This solution can melt snow and ice in temperatures as low as -12 degrees Fahrenheit. It is also friendly to plants and animals. Though, potassium chloride does not melt snow and ice as quickly as other treatments. As such, it is most suited for spaces with only a little snow or ice.
Potassium Acetate
Potassium acetate is a treatment that is best used on steel surfaces. It is biodegradable, environmentally-friendly, and non-corrosive. Plus, it can melt ice and snow in very low temperatures — up to -76 degrees Fahrenheit. Potassium acetate, though, can be very expensive.
